Welcome to the Institute's new monthly newsletter. I've just returned from Doha, Qatar. I had the opportunity to learn more about the many groundbreaking initiatives that the Qatar Foundation and others have launched (see Op-ed) that are helping to build knowledge and create interdisciplinary research cultures of benefits to the region and the world.

Last year, the Institute played a leading role as a partner with the Qatar Foundation on the World Innovation Summit for Education, which brought together over 1,000 influential leaders representing governments, businesses, civil society, university and other educational institutions from around the world. In Washington last month, U.S. Department of State sponsored Fulbright scholars announced the launch of a new nonprofit, Professors Beyond Borders, and Fulbright students from the around the world convened to discuss ways to foster change through social entrepreneurship.

IIE Scholar Rescue Fund Fellow Shares Expertise at Harvard

IIE’s Scholar Rescue Fund provides support and safe haven to persecuted scholars from around the world. Over 300 SRF Scholars have been hosted by more than 200 universities in 39 countries to date. Last week’s Harvard Gazette featured a “global chat” that an Iraqi psychiatrist on an SRF fellowship presented at the Harvard School of Public Health.
