New Programs, Events and Partnerships
In 2011, IIE expanded our Center for Women's Leadership Initiatives, worked with Brazil to launch Science Without Borders, began to administer the Fulbright Teacher Program for the U.S Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, celebrated anniversaries of the Gilman and Boren programs, helped re-build higher education in Iraq, rescued threatened scholars from over a dozen countries, provided emergency assistance to students from Haiti, Thailand, Japan and Syria, and much more.

Every day IIE grantees are making significant contributions, fostering public diplomacy, preserving the environment, and creating a more just, secure, and prosperous global society. Featured participant stories include young civil society leaders from Indonesia and women from the Middle East who are developing their technology and leadership skills through the TechWomen initiative.

Measuring Impact and Results
This year, the Institute helped to transform the lives of more than 25,000 individuals from nearly every nation on the planet, with some 250 programs made possible by approximately 200 Sponsors. Learn more about how many women we helped with training in technology and social media, how many scholars participated in the Fulbright program, how much money we distributed through the Emergency Student Fund, and much more. In 2012, IIE's Scholar Rescue Fund will mark its 10th anniversary and bring to over 500 the number of threatened scholars rescued.

IIE is a Leader in Research and Policy Analysis on Global Mobility
Since 1919, IIE has pioneered research and policy analysis in global academic mobility. In addition to the annual Open Doors report, our research and policy publications in 2011 included a book on developing strategic international partnerships and a landmark report on classifying higher education institutions in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as strategic briefing papers, policy white papers, and annual directories.

Finances at a Glance
The Institute is committed to the highest standards and best practices in nonprofit management and in managing our growth. For the fourth year in a row, Charity Navigator awarded IIE four out of a possible four stars for excellence in non-profit management. IIE also received a 99 percent efficiency in fundraising rating in Forbes.
